A #tbt to guess what this year's Halloween theme is! Lyndhurst's 20th century owners were Egyptology enthusiasts. Here we see Jay Gould's daughter Helen and her husband Finley Shepard posing in front of the Sphinx of Giza on their honeymoon in 1913.
In 1910, Helen Miller Gould had provided funds to @metmuseum to purchase a large collection of Egyptian art and artifacts, many of which are on view today.
In 1923, Helen's brother, George Jay Gould I, died of pneumonia after visiting the tomb of Tutankhamen, thus succumbing to the "curse" of the Pharaohs.
This year's Halloween decor and theater performances will borrow from this history and bring light to the Goulds' fascination with Ancient Egypt.
Yes! It's a fireplace and YES! It's in the middle of nowhere 😁But it's of historical interest .
The Portuguese Fireplace can be found by the roadside near Lyndhurst, New Forest, England.
A plaque explains the presence of the Portuguese Fireplace:
. ’This is the site of a hutted camp occupied by a Portuguese army unit during the First World War. This unit assisted the depleted local labour force in producing timber for the war effort. The Forestry Commission have retained this fireplace from the cookhouse as a memorial to the men who lived and worked here and acknowledge the financial assistance of the Portuguese Government in its renovation.’

Community isn’t just about all living alongside each other, all being part of the same group or even just sharing the same interests. It’s about interaction and about how you can give back as much, if not more, than you take out.
The social media community is the same. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter are all fabulous communities but if you are only concerned about what they can do for you, your business will suffer. It’s a two way street.
If you are simply just promoting your own interests all of the time you’re just going to be existing in the same place as others instead of truly engaging in a community.
What value can you add to the community today?
