  • Confidence journal. I am currently reading and loving @karagoucher ’s Strong. In the early part of the book she talks about keeping a confidence journal. I am not ready to commit to a journal, but I am ready to commit to one confidence post. And I encourage you to commit to writing one entry of whatever your confidence book is too. • • • Confidence, today: a writing from Vanessa Goes From Fat to Fit. Today I can do things that many yesterdays I could not, and many yesterdays were things I could not have dreamt of. Today I can do things that scared me. Things that intimidated me. I can accomplish distances that I once feared. I can lift weights that once seemed like they were never a possibility. I can push myself through physical journeys that yesterdays me had no idea were possible. Today I can look at myself and see someone who is strong. I can see my body changing shape and my mind growing stronger. Many yesterdays ago I saw someone who had flaws. Many yesterdays ago I focused on what I was always doing wrong. Today I focus on what I am doing right. Many yesterdays ago I was afraid. Today I am brave. Many yesterdays ago I didn’t know what I had in me. Today I ask, “how much farther will I go?” Many yesterdays ago I was a different person than I was today. And in many tomorrows I will see just exactly what confidence I’ll have to be even better. #vanessagoesfromfattofit #confidencejournal #marathonrunner #runnersofinstagram #sundayselfie #mermaidathlete #inspiringwomenrunners #womensrunningcommunity #shecanandshedid #becomfident #strongwomen #strongertoday #beatyesterday #instagood

  • If getting outside my comfort zone drives me to improve then just improved a shit load!!! 50KM Spartan mountain race with over 60 obstacles and 3,000M of elevation. First loop was 28km with 1,600M of elevation and had to be completed in less than 6 hours to enable you to continue to the second loop. Unfortunately (or maybe not) I missed the cut off by a few minutes and was not allowed to continue to the next 22km and 1,400M of elevation (5 hour cut off for this loop). Only 18 people from the 121 Age Group competitors that started managed to complete within the time. No one in my age group finished. From the Elite category only 11 from 47 managed to complete this course. It’s called ULTRA BEAST for a reason and I have a lot of training to do to get ready for the (inevitable) next one. DNF (did not finish) is only possible when you start, I am so glad a challenged myself to do this and have learned some valuable lessons from this DNF. #teamsuperfit #spartanrace #legendborne #thepitsingapore #beatyesterday #brightultra50k

  • Been a year. Oct. 2017 I signed up for my first OCR for fun. Tough mudder. Thought I was just going to be able to do a half (coming back from a knee surgery) and ran a full. I was in. Was a competitor and athlete all my life but had aged out of my traditional sports. Didn't realize just how much I had missed the challenge and competition until this. Since then I have moved forward in 2018. Running more 5ks, and my first more distanced runs including 10ks, 15ks, and my 1st half marathon. There was a cycling venture tossed in there too for variety. 2018 has also seen me run (I believe somewhere around) 9 - 10 various ocrs including what it entails for 3x repeat offender and holy grail and somehow being a contender. Now, I'm not saying that this is anything amazing, many do these things or have done this. But for me this is a lot in a year, a lot of change. It also gave me the courage to try some other things I wanted to but never thought I could (for example skiing and snowboarding). There are a lot of awesome things out there in this world and so much more we are capable of than we know. All of this has also helped me to come out of my shell more to talk to people and helped me to stand up for myself more, whether people like it or not. Now, during my "free time" other than just daydreaming of travel and writing, I am contemplating more adventures and challenges! Rockwall climbing, calisthetic training, ninja warrior training, crossfit, triathlons, marathons, Ironman, other ocrs and worlds toughest mudder again, just to name a few, dream big now right? Any suggestions for training for any of these things I'd love to hear! #fitness #fitnesslifestyle #believeinyourself #livelife #physicalandmentalhealth #lovelife #mytrailrun #changesandchallenges #cantstopwontstop #comealive #betterthanyouyesterday #beatyesterday #betteryou #ocr #training #compete #motivate #improve #running #trailrunning #worldstoughestmudder #wtm2018 #wtm #worldstoughestmudder2018 #worldstoughest #toughertogether #growth #merrell

  • 2018 USATF SoCal Cross Country Grand Prix Series🏃🏽‍♂️ 4th in the series, 3rd as a team with New Basin Blues Running Club — Decided to do a cross country season for the first time in 5 years, joining the @newbasinblues and I am so glad I did. It has been such an amazing season with lots of PRs, new and old experiences, and best of all, a new running family! Definitely thankful and blessed to have competed with all the NBB members this season. — Started out the season at the UCR Cross Country Invite with an 8k in 26:44, 53rd (28:06 in 2013). Next stop, Bell-Jeff Invite, received my official NBB jersey and ran with the rest of the men’s team. Ran the 2.9 hilly course in 15:37 (15:47 in 2013) and couldn’t catch that Valor guy! Placed 9th. Missed the next race the following week but came back for the Free Spirit 5k (more like 3.25 miles 😓) with 3 hours of sleep (celebrated @clumsyluna birthday 🙈) and a surprising WIN🥇 in 16:34 (DNR in 2013). Next, I ventured out to Ventura 😏 for the hardest 4 mile race I’ve ever run with steep hills and sharp turns for another WIN🥇 in 25:00 (DNR in 2013). And finally today, for all the marbles, at the Championship race at Crescenta Valley Park a 10k in 35:13 for a 10th place finish (37:03 in 2013 at Will Rogers - easier course). — I am proud of my performance today because I improved so much since the UCR race, beating many of the guys that smoked me at the start of the season. Putting in around 50-mile training weeks most of the season with a few 20 to 30-mile weeks given my busy schedule, I held my own against guys putting in DOUBLE the mileage. — Although high volume training can improve performance, it is not NECESSARY. Distance runners are notorious for “more is better” when it comes to mileage. Train smarter, not harder, make your hard days hard and easy days easy, listen to your body, stay the course, and above all, RESPECT THE PROCESS! 💪🏽 — Thanks to our fearless leader Rene for organizing the men’s team and taking these killer photos! 📸

  • My soul sister, kindred spirit, inspiration and today my saviour 💗 Tan and I don’t see each other very often but we are always in tune with each other and connected on another level. Today Tan randomly contacted me to go for a run. She didn’t know that I was still in bed struggling to find a reason to get out and face the world after an emotional breakdown last night. I was mentally done. It was fate. We were meant to do this run today, to push ourselves to free our minds. This course is one that we both turn to when we need to focus on the why and to run for our soul. And Mount Buninyong you delivered today!! The funny thing is we chatted all the way up and then when the best part came (the descent) we were silent, just taking in the view, in awe of our surroundings, feeling the elation of where we were and what our bodies can do. Thank you so much for a memorable runtherapy session! Love you to bits 💗

  • “If you are on the right path, it will always be UPHILL.” —How you handle the uphill determines everything. 🧡. . 49.30 miles for the week (the lowest mileage week during this training). On the schedule today was a 21 mile workout, unfortunately I had to take an unplanned rest day to due sickness. The only choice I have is to be patient & remain positive. 🙏🏼❤️🙌🏼 2 weeks countdown until CIM. #mindset #attitude #positivevibes #beatyesterday #marathontraining #runcim #runningmotivation
