  • One of the largest stepwells(baori or baoli in Rajasthan) in the world, Chand Baori was built by Raja Chandra in the 9th century. . Baoris are basically deep wells that have steps to allow one to reach the water. Chand Baori has an astonishingly 3500 steps that lead to the depth of the water. . Surrounded by steps on three sides, the fourth side, that is the entrance, has a beautiful jharokha. This complex also houses a temple that was built around the same time. The remains of this temple as well as the complex are kept in the large corridors along the stepwell. . While we are now talking and learning more about water harvesting, this practice had started in the 9th century itself! Amazing, right?! Have you been to Chand Baori or have witnessed such magnificence elsewhere? Tell me more! . . . #priyankadey #cntgiveitashot #mypixeldiary #theimaged #rajasthan #historicalplaces #alwar #stepwell #visualsoflife #ig_india #ig_shotz #travelwithme #travelersnotebook #traveldiary #followtrain

  • What's the kindest thing that a stranger has done for you? Over the past year, I've had the opportunity to be on the receiving end of some amazing acts of kindness. Now, an act of kindness doesn't have to be something big, like a material stuff or anything else. It can be as simple as reassurance or, saying something nice. . . Take this picture for an instance. While I was traveling from Govindghat to Ghangaria I met this Amazing lady. About an hour trekking uphill we spotted her taking a shortcut. Dressed like a typical pahadi woman would she carried a huge bundle of Sticks. As we approached her, she welcomed us with a warm smile that spread across her face. She showed us the way and thanking her, we continued our journey leaving her behind. A little up the hill, we stopped for refreshments where we ate and rested for a while. Shujayet and I, constantly made fun of people who wrote in their blogs that it was an easy trek till Ghangaria. Trust me when I say this, no mountain is easy. No matter what they say, no mountain is easy. . . The road seemed unending. After trekking for about another 4 hours when we reached midpoint where to our utter surprise this same woman was already sitting and resting there. She waved at us and invited us to rest with her. We both were surprised as how a woman that old reached there before us because we didn't see her cross at any point. She offered us water and started asking us questions. She told us all about her family and where she lived. After resting for about half an hour we decided it was time to get back to the road. As we stood up she said, "I am very sorry but, my home is bit far away. Had it been here, I would have fed you well and given you something to eat on your way" and patted our heads. . . This might not be an exceptional act of kindness for you but, the honesty with which she said, made all the difference. She genuinely sounded sorry. She didn't need to say any of that. But, she did. I will never forget it. It's these little act of kindness that makes me believe that there is still some good out there. All you have to do is go and find some. @wanderers.of.india @indiapictures @indiaview
