I’m opening a gym. What gear should I buy first?
Buy the gear you need to run your gym everyday first.
Although, this issue seems pretty straight forward when it’s laid out, it can be difficult to get your initial equipment list together.
Okay, so you’ve decided to open a gym and you want to get all the gear, but of course, you need to stick to your budget too. Here’s what I tell people - your initial list should include the gear that you need to run your gym every day. I know that that statement sounds very simple but that’s the beauty of it. It’s a simple rule that keep you on task and helps to control the budget too. Okay, what gear do you actually need first?
Well, in a strength and conditioning style gym, things like barbells, bumper plates, a pull up rig, kettlebells, wall balls, and plyo boxes should be at the top of your list. Also, think about storage too. You’re going to need a way to organise all your new gear. That is a place to start, however, your training methodology may make your “what I need to run my gym everyday” list look a little different.
