  • Here’s a way back Wednesday post for yah. Timehop reminded me that two years ago I was competing at my first powerlifting meet. I had been lifting for one year. I️ had not previously been into bodybuilding or lifting for fun since high school. I competed in the 63 kg weight class (138 pounds) which is over 20 pounds less than I weigh now lol (I now compete in the 72 kg weight class). **For the record, I am unsure if the videos in this post are my final good attempts- these are just the ones I could find** I squatted 236 pounds Bench pressed 116 pounds Deadlifted 265 pounds 617 total. - I have put almost 200 pounds on my total since then (815 at nationals last month). And I’m excited to see what happens in the upcoming years. Powerlifting is fun I️ guess 💪🏽 #lionheartedstrong

  • “Why do you like powerlifting so much?” ^ I love when people ask me this question because it gives me the opportunity to advocate for such a great sport 🤩 ^ Where to begin? ... ^ Powerlifting gives me a chance to work toward something (getting stronger) while simultaneously growing muscle, staying active, and staying healthy. The gym time is also my ME time. Win win win win. win. ^ Like many of you, I played sports in high school.🏀 🏃🏼‍♀️ I knew when I got to college I had to do something 🤷🏼‍♀️ ^ So why not just train for fun? ^ That’s not a good enough “why” for me (refer to my last post) 🤷🏼‍♀️ ^ I’m goal-oriented to the core. My “why” has to be very important to me or I won’t waste my time (just being honest). I conserve my time and energy for the important things. ^ Other things I love about powerlifting. It’s an individual sport. I go at my pace and do it my own way. I go to the gym when it’s convenient for me. The powerlifting community is incredible- everyone cheers for each other at meets; it’s such a fun environment. ^ If you’re a powerlifter- what do you love about the sport?   • If I could be anything what would I be? ^ I frequently ask myself this. I want to be a lot of things. And my list keeps growing, but I’ve got a lifetime (Lord willing). ^ ▪️A full time coffee-drinker, for one. DUH. @liveoakcoffeehouse ▪️A competitor - I wanna do all the sports. Train for all the things. I wanna push my body in every way possible (Maybe even run a race of some kind someday? Don’t hold your breath though). ▪️ I also want to train for fun. The gym is my “me” time (that’s why I don’t take pics/ videos at the gym hardly ever 🤷🏼‍♀️). ▪️A major foodie. Like Guy Fieri except I probably won’t have my own TV show- but that’s okay (I frequently stop at places he’s been whenever traveling across the country). ▪️An occupational therapist. I wanna help people do what they LOVE and need to do. What’s cooler than that?!? ▪️A coach. Nothing brings me to life quite like teaching people how to transform their bodies, how to powerlifter, how to eat to reach their goals. I could go on and on. ▪️SOMEDAY- I want to be a wife and a mother ▪️to be continued ^ What do you want to be?   • Just something for you to think about: How many times have you been putting something you wanted to do to the side, thinking you‘re gonna wait until the time is right? Be honest with yourself. • • I‘m gonna take a wild guess and say 95% of the ideas you had and the plans you wanted to make never happened. Simply because we always believe waiting until the time is right is a thing to do. Well I‘m here to tell you that it‘s not. You‘re never gonna find the right time, because it doesn’t exist. Nothing’s gonna be perfect on the first try. What makes it better and better is the effort you put in as soon as you start doing it. You don’t need to have everything figured out in order to start something. It’s gonna figure itself out, I promise. All you need to do is actually doing something. Don‘t sit around talking about it, go out and DO THE THING. Whatever that may be. It can be something as simple as cutting off your hair or learning that instrument you always wanted to learn down to building your own business, releasing a book or whatever else you can think of. You have all these possibilities right in front of you and all you ever do is considering them. This is your reminder to start doing it. You start and you‘re gonna give it your all. And it‘s not gonna be easy. It‘s gonna be far from it. Try it and allow yourself to fail. Try again and fail better. Know that it’s not impossible. Minimize the number of meals you eat out or have to estimate until you get the hang out tracking for a few weeks. . 2.) Plan ahead! Track your meals the night before or in the morning and adjust serving sizes to meet your goals. This way you aren’t scrambling at the end of the day to reach your macros. . 3.) Stick to the plan! Just because it’s flexible doesn’t mean it’s always fun. Eat the meals you planned for yourself. You got this! . Need accountability? Have weight loss goals of your own? It’s really devastating to me how much our plastic usage affects all the innocent little lives, like my turtle friend here, and how little the majority of our population cares. Even the smallest lifestyle changes can help lessen the impact of the massive plastic footprint we are leaving. Plastic can take up to 1000 YEARS to decompose. Take reusable bags to the grocery store. Say no to plastic straws. Recycle your soda bottles. Reuse plastic containers. It might not seem like a huge impact for the individual, but imagine if everyone started doing it?! #lionheartedstrong #reducereuserecycle #nature

  • How the heck do you know if you’re doing what you’re called to do? ^ One of my clients texted me and asked me this this morning and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. ^ You pray. Pray for guidance and do what feels right. Do what sets your heart on fire and pleases the Lord. ^ Try lots of different things. Do all sorts of adventures. Go places.   • If I could give just one piece of advice, this is what it would be: ^ STOP holding yourself back to make people around you more comfortable. ^ Here’s some examples for you: ^ I got a lot of crap from people when I created this IG account 3 years ago. People said “oh no not another ‘fitness’ chick sharing her journey.” A lot of people poked fun at me. (For the record many of them have returned to ask for my advice 🙀) ^ Another example: I told people I was “training for fun” for a long time because I didn’t feel like I could call myself a powerlifter- that might make people uncomfortable.. 😣 ^ Another example: I told some people I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to go to college for because some are intimidated by people with big goals, a plan, and plus, “you will change your mind anyway along the way” 🙄 (PS I didn’t. 4 years into college at the same university and 4 semesters through the same graduate program I’ve had my eyes on since my senior year of HS 🙇🏼‍♀️) ^ Anotha one: I’ve eaten things, put away my food scale, tried to hide going to the gym, and countless other things at time to make people feel more comfortable around me, more comfortable about their unhealthy lifestyle, you name it. ^ There was a time when I didn’t share much about my faith because religion makes people uncomfortable. Welllll this is my page so you can leave if you’re offended or don’t like something I say 🤷🏼‍♀️ #sorrynotsorry yanno ^ How often do we say things, or don’t say things, do things, or don’t do things to make people more comfortable where they’re at?   • Today I was challenged to speak kindly to myself by @katherinedonna and to share 1.) something I love about myself 2.) something I am proud of 3.) something I need to work on ^ something I love about myself is my relentless effort to evolve. I put a lot of energy into becoming the person I want to be. No excuses. ^ I am proud of the balance I’ve established, and continue to establish, in my life. I’ve eliminated so many “extremes” in my life and work hard to balance all of my priorities- my relationship w Jesus, family, school, work, friends, fitness. ^ I need to work on chilling the ef out when I don’t have a set-in-stone schedule for the day. I’ve been go-go-go for literally years. For the first time since probably my freshman year of college, I have a little “free time” and I do mean a little lol. Productivity standards do not (should not) rule my life. ^ This reflection has been good for me. But maybe don’t know how to ask. ^ Maybe it’s an opportunity to inspire someone who’s uninspired. ^ I always get asked- why are you going to school for OT if you love fitness and nutrition so much?!?! ^ Good question. I don’t have to answer in detail to everyone who asks me this. I could just say “oh OT is a great field and I just like it.” And to some people- this is what I say. ^ But I try to take the opportunity to INSPIRE people because you never know who might need it. ^ People notice when you’re enthusiastic about what you do- and they want to know WHY. It’s a good thing. Advocate for what you’re passionate about, your hobby, lifestyle, field of practice, whatever it may be (and if you’re not enthusiastic about what you do, you should change that shit up realllll quick). ^ What do you do that you’re enthusiastic about?? 👇🏽👇🏽 ^ ^ #lionheartedstrong #saturdaymotivation #loveyourlifeorchangeit

  • I used to hate being in front of a camera. All I could notice in photos of myself was stray hairs, my outfit didn’t look right, how awkward I looked, blah blah blah. ^ What I couldn’t appreciate then that I do now is the art of capturing moments. It’s beautiful to be able to look back on photographs and remember that vacation, that day, that moment. ^ Looking back, we don’t care what clothes we had on (I know- the long, Aeropostale graphic tees was not a cute trend. I lived it, too, but I digress). ^ We just want to be able to go back in time and relive the moment. ^ I mentioned this in yesterday’s post, but it’s 100% true and worth mentioning again —> the only photos you regret are the ones you don’t take. ^ Life is beautiful. Praise Jesus. Often. This world offers us endless opportunities. Find your passion. Run with it. Love fiercely. Get off your phone. Turn the radio up. Eat a lot of ice cream. Take a lot of pictures- the only ones you will regret are the ones you don’t take 🤷🏼‍♀️ Laugh a lot. Never stop learning new things. Plan vacations and staycations because experiences > THINGS.   • Why are the first things that come to our minds when we think about who we are all the things we don‘t like about ourselves? • We are taught to not say „I love myself/ I‘m awesome/ I‘m beautiful“ because it makes us look arrogant and full of ourselves. But it honestly doesn‘t. It makes us love who we are, makes us confident. And when we get to that point - the highest point of self acceptance and self love - people will get offended because they can‘t offend you anymore. These people can‘t learn to be okay with themselves and so they want to drag you down. They want you to feel just as bad as them but you won‘t let them. And that‘s what scares them. It takes a lot of practise to get to that point of self acceptance and there‘s always room to improve. And you can only get better when you try. So try. ✨ I want you to take pen and paper and write down 5 things you love about yourself. Highlight the positives. Write them down and read them. Over and over and over again. Manifest them into your brain so that from now on, whenever someone asks who you are you can let them know these 5 words about you. That‘s how you spread acceptance and positivity. By accepting yourself. Enjoying yourself. Loving yourself. Appreciating yourself. Be honest with yourself. • • I‘m gonna take a wild guess and say 95% of the ideas you had and the plans you wanted to make never happened. Simply because we always believe waiting until the time is right is a thing to do. Well I‘m here to tell you that it‘s not. You‘re never gonna find the right time, because it doesn’t exist. Nothing’s gonna be perfect on the first try. What makes it better and better is the effort you put in as soon as you start doing it. You don’t need to have everything figured out in order to start something. It’s gonna figure itself out, I promise. All you need to do is actually doing something.   • I went for a run today and realized I really suck at running (to the point where I think a turtle would easily be faster than me 🧐🤷🏼‍♀️) but that doesn‘t mean I‘ll stop running. Why? .. Because you don‘t have to be good at something to enjoy it! Please read that again and remember it. You do stuff because you enjoy doing them, just think about all the hobbies you have. What got you started? An interest. What kept you going? Enjoying it. The mile stones and goals you hit in the process of that are great and a good motivation but the main reason you do it is because it brings you joy. At least that‘s what it should do. So please don‘t let anyone tell you you‘re „not good enough“ at something to not do it. There‘s no standard you have to meet to do things you love. I was been bed ridden with strep throat symptoms for a couple days while simultaneously neck deep studying for finals. Breathe. Drink coffee. Repeat. . I had a perfect plan for my weekend.. I would be all studied up before I headed up north to @kaylajane23 bach. party. But as we all know, things do not always go as we plan for them to, and I got very sick. Behind on studying.   • Maybe it’s not an “L” but more of a “TIE.” Here me out 👇🏽 . How often do we feel like we are losing when in reality, we ARE taking steps 👣forward, we just maybe are not where we wanna be❓ . For example, I am currently deadlifting about 50 pounds less for sets of 5 than I was in November. It’s frustrating. Nobody likes being set back. . But the reality is that I can not go on forever without working on mobility and fine tuning my performance. I can’t keep going forward without strengthening my shoulder and hip. I’m still progressing forward, though, so why call this an L? I think it’s more of a tie after-all 🤷🏼‍♀️ . This is a mindset I think we all need to have a little more often. Right now I need to be mentally strong. I’m studying 6-8+ hours a day this week and then refocusing my brain on training in the evenings so I can perform well in the gym. . Sure, there’s harder things in life. But this is my *current *struggle. Lord knows I need all the study time i can get- grad school is anything but easy. But I also need to step away from the material for a couple hours. And so do you. . All my homies preparing for finals- don’t forget to take care of yourself.   • Just been thinking lately about how much of our life is consumed by technology. Some days I just want to throw my phone out the window of my car. So here’s my little ramble this morning- I’ve been reflecting on all the times I’ve missed a cute bunny outside my window, a kind smile from a stranger, a good conversation with a loved one- all because my face was in a screen. I don’t know about you, but I know my time on earth isn’t guaranteed even into the next moment. Starting now, I am going to make a conscious effort to be present not only physically, but also with my attention to those around me, instead of those I see scrolling through my phone. I don’t receive love and gratification from likes and comments on photos. I want to receive it from those I surround myself with in my every day life. I don’t have any sort of following that even remotely cares what I say or post to my social media. Even this post is more or less just a public promise to myself and those in my reality that I will be present for them, for myself. I want to see the bunnies and smile back at the strangers. I want to cherish moments in my life, not pictures on the Gram. It makes me so sad when I see my friends so consumed by getting views and likes on their selfies. If you’re gonna share- why not share your experiences, what you love, your REAL. When you die, do you want this timeline of your life left for your loved ones to look at to contain 873 mirror selfies? I’m not dissing the use of Instagram and other SM outlets because obviously.. here I am. But at the end of the day, your Instagram or your Twitter and all the people within those apps don’t know your heart. They don’t know your dreams, your fears, your scars. Put your phone down. Build up your relationships, your actual life, not the one you want everyone to perceive you to have. How much of your life passes by while you stare at your phone? 🤔

  • This is not an easy thing to post. But I have to hold myself accountable. - - - Since I was little, and a girl told me I was fat in the third grade, I have struggled so hard with my body image. I never liked how I looked which I can remember being as young as nine years old and not liking my face in the mirror. So I grew up with those thoughts, and then I was thirteen when I started to get sick all the time. Mono, over and over, strep and mono, even just being too stressed and busy made me sick. So I would drop a bunch of weight. Then gain it all back, and feel awful about my body because I had a distorted image of what is “healthy”. So I kept being a skiier and working out in school, and then I got really into weightlifting. I started to make my health a priority and learning to gain strength. These photos are beginning and end of senior year to show how much my weight fluctuated because of my health and my life. The third is a photo I hated so the original post is 100% photoshopped. Because that’s how low I started to feel. The fourth is my short 3ish week progress I’m so heckin’ proud of. I’m not “overweight” or anything like that, but how I look and think about my body isnt healthy. So I started a journey, really. After falling on and off the wagon after highschool in college, I made a choice. To be healthy in mind body and soul. This means not worrying about numbers, but eating right and liking how I look. This means a healthy relationship with food. This means a tight relationship with Jesus, and learning how all of this fufills my soul. - - Also I couldnt do this without @aleeshamarie45, thank you for being a best friend, gym partner and everything else 💜 - - Hope ya’ll are strapped in for this ride but I wasnt kidding when I said #yearofyou. This is what it means to be and learn to grow to be, #lionheartedstrong. Which I couldnt be more greatful to @kodi_humphrey for teaching me. 💓💓💓

A year ago, I was working two afternoons a week at a PT clinic (hey @shaneomara_dpt @seanomara7 ), busting my butt in school to finish my last semester of undergrad, and spending every spare second I had in the gym and coaching. . There was times that I was not sure how I was going to make it through the week. . It was like- change your clothes while your driving from school to work kind of madness. . It was several nights up till 3 am to finish a project and hitting the gym before an 8 am the next morning to get it all in. . It was insane. It still is. But I distinctly remember the mass chaos that I was going through a year ago - and thanks to Timehop for reminding me - I’m now sharing this with all of you in hopes of inspiring a few who may be going through a heck of a lot right now trying to get where you wanna go. .   • I wish this was some sort of PR or even something close to a PR but it’s far from it. I’m learning to celebrate every victory though as I regain strength. This is 275 for sets of 4. . I’m reminding myself every day that this is a marathon, not a sprint 🏃🏼‍♀️ I’m grateful that I can get in the gym and that my body has the ability to do what I love.   • Many times there really is no right or wrong answer to the dilemmas we debate. . Should I join this organization. Go to this party. Start this group. Hang out with that crowd. Go on vacation. Work out today or not. Apply for this job or that job? These are some of the decisions I have faced while in college. And really- there wasn’t a right or wrong answer to any of them. . The answer has always come down to a response to these questions: 1.) is this in line with my goals? 2.) can I handle putting this on my plate? 3.) why do I actually want to or not want to do this? . If it’s not in line with my goals- I’m probably not going to do it (not all my goals are school and training focused). I tend to put wayyyy more on my plate than I can handle, and in turn, overwhelm myself. Or, something I’m doing suffers. No bueno. Lastly, why do I want (to do) said thing? Is it truly something I want? Or a something my family/ friends/ society wants? Is it something I really want- or something I really want right now? . How do you make decisions? What things do you consider before committing yourself to something, buying something, or tossing another responsibility on your plate?   • I was recently listening to someone talk about being as conscientious about how they spend their energy as they do their money, and it really struck home for me. . I’m someone who spends my money very wisely. Why wouldn’t I spend my energy just as wisely? . Why is it easier to waste energy on people/ situations/ things that don’t matter than it is money? . Our energy is precious. And valuable. Yet I find myself concentrating on the most minuscule details sometimes- wasting energy. . Since this has been brought to my attention, I’ve been extra careful about what I ‘spend energy’ on, and I want to encourage you to do the same. . Your energy is valuable.   • This has to be the cutest photo captured during the Arnold and that's probably bc @kodi_humphrey is theee cutest! 😄💖 I've followed Kodi for awhile now, and feel like she's just one of those people who doesn't get all caught up in the "fitness instagram" hype but still kills it. Her posts are relatable and often inspiring, not overly contrived, and I admire what shes accomplished in powerlifting so much! She's another super strong woman i recommend following if ya dont already 😉 I was so happy to have run into you walking around the expo Kodi, even though I was shocked at how tall you are irl! 😮 hope you've had a great couple weeks since the expo and that I get to see you again sometime! 💕 **this photo brought to you courtesy of her trying to squat down to my height while I tried to get on my tiptoes 😂**

I intentionally started my day off on a positive note by: 1.) getting up in time to make myself a GOOD breakfast before heading to fieldwork (protein waffles ayyeee) and pack my lunch. 2.) making myself lots of coffee WITH hazelnut creamer 😍 3.) turn on good tunes to listen to in the car. highly underestimated. @jonbellion always puts me in a good mood. 4.) making a REALISTIC to-do list. Nothing is more overwhelming than slapping more things on a to-do list than you will actually accomplish. I made a weekly to-do and one for today. 5.) smiling and sitting up straight because #fakeittillyoumakeit sometimes amiright . What do you do to kick your day off on a positive note?
