#monolake #us395 #travelusa #california #wanderlust #travelusa #starkindigotrip

A repost of the Hunter’s Moon at Mono Lake. The quote above is quite appropriate for that evening, that feeling. The light was just pure magic. What a special place. 🌙🖤 #monolake #monocounty #huntersmoon

  • The calm clear water of Parker Lake mirrors twice the beauty. All the lakes of the Eastern Sierra are spectacular, but for the extra effort and hike out this lake tucked in a canyon overshadowed by the peaks of the Sierra Crest is one of my favorites. It’s not often you get to be all alone in the presence of such grandeur. Parker Peak and Mount Wood rest on the right, and the rugged southeastern slope of Mount Lewis sits tall on the left. Aspen groves in peak foliage give the valley the perfect splash of color. . Swipe left to see the pinkest Golden Hour as we walked above Parker Lake Canyon. The final video ends on a serene view of Mono Lake over the chaparral. I seriously hope this is what heaven looks like. . • In case you were wondering why some of our Generation Green members were MIA during school this week . . . some of our members participated in our annual Mono Lake 5 day trip. We visited various places on our trip such as Fossil Falls, June Lake, Mono Lake, Manzanar National Historic Site, Panum Crater and the Inyo National Forest just to name a few! Stay tuned to see what experiences our students had as well as what we learned about water conservation and water wise practices, our natural environments and leave no trace on our trip. #monolakecalifornia #monolake #Generationgreen #jmhs #Johnmuirhighschool #USFS

  • Upon first glance at the Mono Lake Tufa State Reserve, it's hard not to imagine that you've left Earth entirely and have landed on a different planet or possibly that you find your self in a different country. The shallow saline lake, located right in the middle of the desert, is surrounded by strange, towering formations known as "Tufa" that give the whole area a otherwordly vibe. Mono lake is actually a remnant of one of America's oldest lake, formed 760,000 years ago in a very volcanic and geologically active part of California. Because the lake doesnt drain to the ocean it is highly saline and alkaline. It may look beautiful, but a dip into the water will leave your skin slimmy of saline and let's just say it will sting as hell. #photojournalism #monolake #nature #conservation #nationalparks #photography #geography #travel #wanderlust #exploring #wild #wilderness #naturelover #landscape

  • South Tufa, Monolake, California. We stumbled on it by luck, our hotel in Lee Vining had some amazing photography on the walls, and after some internet research I found that those beautiful rocks were just 5 minutes away from our room. Also, Lee Vining is my new favorite city and I want to go back and spend more time there. #monolake #southtufa #roadtrip #latergram

  • I took this picture at Mono Lake, at sunrise. Mono Lake is a salt water lake that covers ~65 square miles and is over one million years old. Brine shrimp is the only thing that lives in this lake. Water enters the bottom of Mono Lake through small springs. High concentrations of dissolved calcium ions in this water causes huge amounts of precipitate around the spring orifices which creates these beautiful structures, known as “Tufas”. The Tufa towers originally formed at the bottom of the lake centuries ago. When lake levels fell, the tufa towers came to rise above the water surface. It’s an amazing sight to see!
