  • Behind the Waterfall | Photograph by Helgi Sigurðsson . “One night I went out to photograph the Northern Lights with my friend when I got to the place I wanted to be at. There were clouds everywhere, so we decided to drive a little further,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Helgi Sigurðsson. “I decided to show my friend this waterfall. It took us 15 minutes to get there, when the beautiful Northern Lights show started, and I didn’t even take one photo of them. I wanted to use the short time to shoot when the moon was shining on the waterfall.” — “Love how the photographer has used a long exposure at night to reveal a different view of this waterfall.” — @natgeo photographer Stephen Alvarez (@salvarezphoto)

  • 🏊🏻‍♂️ and you are in 🇨🇦 Гуляя по набережной вблизи 🇺🇸🇨🇦 границы, меня осенило- насколько же мы все друг от друга отделяемся, отгораживаемся и знать друг друга не желаем.

  • YAY! A post release picture of one of the most exciting patients this year: It was nerve wrecking when one of this years monitored macaw chicks in the Chiquibul broke it's wing upon fledging (but it was lucky to be found). It was rewarding to be able to repair it at the BWRC. Then it was again nerve wrecking to observe the chick (re)learning to fly, much slower, since it had to recover from a broken bone and learn a new skill. And finally the utmost relief when it returned to it's site of origin and rejoined the flock in the Chiquibul. All of this was only possible due to close cooperation with our partners at FCD as well as the Forest Department. And of course thanks to ALL BWRC's supporters who enable us to provide veterinary care and rehabilitation to imperiled wildlife free of charge. #scarletmacaw #environmentalscience #nationalgeographic #vetmedicine #vetstudent #vetmedworld #travel #animals #veterinary #medicalscience #environmentalscience #conservation #savetheenvironment

  • Two days before the delivery date of her fifth child, 32-year-old Grace Hachiswenya ( #GraceNatGeo) makes a sunset walk to her local clinic in rural Zambia. . “I fear that if I go into labor at home, I will not be able to get to the clinic. I will have to deliver at home. So I am moving into the clinic,” she said. . In this photo, Grace is joined by her aunt, daughter, and niece, who helped her carry supplies she would need in the maternal waiting room. . Grace would end up living in the clinic for the next 10 days, after which, she delivered a healthy baby girl, Pamela Hachiswenya.

  • Blog post of the day...the last of the summer roses 😢 I’ve definitely been in “macro withdrawal” since the end of the abundant flower season here in the Mid-Atlantic summer. I discovered these roses over the weekend and, of course, I had to take advantage of their exquisite beauty. These were all taken with a 50mm low-light macro lens using manual focus. Here’s to beautiful color on a Monday! 🤗 (4 images in this post)
