  • Article #13: Body Mass and Weekly Training Distance Influence the Pain and Injuries Experienced by Runners Using Minimalist Shoes (Fuller, 2017) ____ 🔴 Main point: In a RCT, of 61 healthy runners placed in a minimal or conventional shoe group, those placed in a minimalist group were more likely to sustain a running related injury when weekly training distance was greater than 35 km/wk (21.7 miles/week) or when body mass was over 85.7kg (189 lbs). Authors concluded that it may be more beneficial to increase distance in minimal shoes by 1.7 km/wk (1 mile/wk) which is equivalent to slightly less than 5% of 35 km/wk (Fuller, 2017) _____ 🔴 Application: Runners who average more than 21 miles, per week, or who weigh more than 189 pounds, should be more cautious when transitioning to minimal running shoes due to increased injury risk.   • 🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏻🏅Tonight I worked with @arsendpt, one of the incredible Dr. of Physical Therapy @prehab_usa . Not only did I have a complete gait analysis done on their state of the art treadmill, but we went through a whole gamut of tests so that he could assess where I am physically in my marathon and running journey. I learned so much. Check my stories out for a glimpse at some of the things we went through tonight. I can’t wait to head back next week for more. I’m happy to report that my physical base as a runner is really good, but I’m so happy to have @prehab_usa teaching me things that will only help to keep me running stronger and smarter well past the @nycmarathon .   • It’s really easy for me to stay late at work. There’s always something that needs to be done and it seems like this week my to-do list was always a mile long. And today it bit me. I was working late and figured it would be fun since I had an easy 5 on the schedule. I was working at my desk when I heard thunder and checked the forecast to see a storm coming through. I quickly wrapped up what I needed to get done and headed out and on my way for my run. Only to see lightning on my way. So instead of running at the park I usually run at, I made my way on the treadmill. Whomp, whomp. Easy 5 miles on the treadmill and a little bit of core work to wrap up this rainy day. At this point I’m just really looking forward to sunny skies and cooler temps this weekend 😎 Mother Nature, you won this time.

  • Three half marathon pace miles smooshed between a warm up and a cool down. I don’t really have a goal pace right now, other than to run, so I’ve been adjusting to how I (more importantly how my shoulder) feels. And honestly I’m just loving setting these small goals for myself each day. This felt hard enough, but not too much. Aiming for 5 run days this week, and adding in some cross training next week. I’m cleared to go back to lifting weights as of the 27th 🙌🏼 Tomorrow is FRIDAY! 💕💕💕

  • Hamstring strains are stretch injuries. This means they were stretched too far, too quickly, with too much force, or any combination. Due to the nature of the injury you want to avoid stretching the hamstrings in the early stages of rehab(~first 7 days) to allow the damaged tissues to heal. Aggressive stretching does not help recovery and may just cause symptoms to linger longer. Movements such as the hip hinge or deadlift, repeated flexion or bending forward, running or sprinting are some examples of movements that require stretching and loading of the hamstrings at more extreme ranges and may be provocative acutely.⠀ ⠀ Cross training and modifying activities are important to keep you training and progressing. Utilizing the walking, elliptical, biking, or possibly swimming can be great ways to maintain or improve metabolic conditioning without worsening symptoms. Modifying depth or ROM, load, or the variation of a specific exercise are also easy ways to continue pain free training as you allow the tissues to heal and work back to full activity. Initially the goal is to find ways to train or stay active without pushing through pain. No olvides mantenerte bien hidratado durante y después del entrenamiento. •LLegá temprano. ⏰ ¡Fundamental llegar a tiempo para un buen reconocimiento del terreno, más aún si es tu primera vez! LLegas tranqui, bajas un poco la ansiedad, vas al baño, te sacas 332mil selfies, entrada en calor y te acomodas en TU TIEMPO de carrera (no seas ladri que perjudicas a otros). •Organización. 🗒📌 Es importante que dejes todo preparado la noche anterior y no tener que entrar en estado de pánico cuando no encuentres la estampita de la virgen desatanudos, que llevas siempre de cábala, a las 5:45 AM. De abajo para arriba… zapas, medias, piernas, lompa, vaselina, geles, remera, número, chip, palpitaciones, cabeza, gafas, música, gorra, estampita, etc.) •Desayuno. 🍞☕ Lo de siempre, lo que estás acostumbrado. No te mandes el desayuno del All inclusive en República Dominicana; tranqui y dos horas antes! •Estrategia. 🤔 ¡A esta altura ya sabés tu ritmo, no salgas corriendo al Colo Mastromarino, te va a ganar igual! Que es para mi el correr no son sólo km que dejas atrás son objetivos personales para demostrar a uno de lo que somos capaces a uno Mismo que no existen los imposibles ni los límites cada paso te encuentra contigomis Esa sensación de libertad. Correr contra el viento, con el sol, bajo la lluvia, entre bosques, ríos, días frío, nublados, con calor. Esa adrenalina al salir de una meta para comenzar una nueva carrera no es contra los competidores en contra uno mismo esos 5,10,15,21,42,o más km para demostrar una vez más que si soy capaz de eso y mucho más y al fina ver el arco de Meta llegan esas sensaciones de sentimientos encontrados, gritas. Ríes y en ocasiones lloras... Cada carrera o entrenamiento te exijes ms y más lo grand o así roper tus propias metas y objetivos así motivando te para tal vez algún día correr ese tan mencionado maraton lo que para uno solo son 42.195km para es mi locura, mi pasión mi locura es correr... #trailrunning #trailrunninglife #trh #montaña #vivalavidatrail #libre #volar #transnavajas100k #fotografix #actopanhidalgo #trailhidalgo #traillife #trailrunning
