Today, I had a conversation with @thankfulozzie who has ran 18 plus marathons, ran 100 Miles in Haiti. He asked, “how are you feeling this week?” I told him last week was harder for me but this week I was feeling good about my workouts and runs. He told me something that I will forever remember ...... . . “Don’t look at the bad days/runs/week as a sign of weakness or frustration, let that be your CHARACTER BUILDING day/run. Those days when you don’t feel like running but you still go out there and do it, those are the runs that make you stronger and prepares you for the marathon mentally ” Ozzie you are astonishing and wise individual 🙏🏽 thank you for sharing it with me so I can pass on the inspiration to anyone who is training for anything . . . @nikelosangeles I am forever grateful for the evening that was hosted for the ladies of #nikewomenmarathonproject at the new Nike Melrose store , to be gifted the Pegasus Turbo built with the Nike ZoomX foam, with the same technology as the reacts.   • ⏺️ frustrated is an understatement, I was meant to be doing 15 miles this morning however some extremely tight calves and pain in my knee I decided to listen to my body and cut the run short (very short) ⏺️I think it may be time for me to invest in some new shoes and take some time to stretch, something that I'm not overly great at. Better to stop before it turns into something serious. ⏺️ Thinking about taking my bike out now so I'm not too sad today 😂 also have some exciting things planned for Kieran today ⏺️ #runningforbaes

  • 🔬How to extend time at VO2max . . . A few years ago off the back of this paper I asked @itsjordangill and @uniqueshafiq to run for 20 min in the red zone with no rest! They nearly came on a death run after me! . . . I might try playing around with this in another super block of training. Usually to attain VO2max you set the power/speed high then hit VO2max and die. In this study they hit VO2max but decreased the power so they could sustain close to VO2max until the athletes had enough. In this way they found that VO2max could be extended from just a few minutes to over 20 min! . . . Normally we're interested in optimising external intensity and internal intensity and designing our sessions from a minimal effective dose perspective so I wouldn't try these runs again until I've done them or in some very special circumstances. . . . One of interesting tables within the paper shows the physiological variables that are best related to time limit at VO2max. This is interesting from our perspective because there will be sometime when our athletes need to work at high intensity close to VO2max for a prolonged period of time. The characteristics that best explain time at VO2max are mainly cardiac related (stroke volume/cardiac output) and what they authors call power reserve which is the difference between max aerobic power and the power plateau in the variable test. It's good to know that we work on improving both in our programmes to improve performance. . . . Delicious food ...rose galore and the most important of course has been spending quality time with my amazing family. 😁 Its been hard work with 2 year old who seems to like tantrums and doesn’t sit still but to have time altogether making memories counts for so much. We’ve laughed ... I’ve shouted ...back to the real world tonight ... with bootcamps and new clients to take on. I always want to add that I’ve kept up with my fitness but definitely haven’t held back on the usual indulgences.. Stunning morning on the Purbeck hills and I managed to include Corfe Castle in my loop.
