“When I first started diving in Palm Beach County, Florida our ship wrecks were covered with the incredibly Jawsome Sand Tiger Sharks like this one. During the winter months Scalloped Hammerheads filled every part of the water column. Sadly these amazing shark encounters are no longer available here. If you truly love sharks like I do, please read on and help me fix this today.
While many shark scientists that manage sharks claim we have some of the "best management for sharks worldwide" which is true. It is only true because most countries don't have any, or very little shark management. The bigger truth is under this so-called "excellent shark management", we have been part of the problem that has killed roughly 90% of all the sharks and put 33% of the worlds sharks and rays in some state of endangerment, headed for extinction. Presently under our current so called "excellent shark management" the United States is the 7th worst nation worldwide for killing sharks! Florida, which is the worst state, kills roughly 1.5 million sharks yearly! Without question the very best thing you can do today, to eliminate the United States from being a huge part of the shark killing problem is to sign and share the petition listed on my IG profile with everyone!” 🦈 📸& caption by @jim_abernethy

hello! guess who’s trying to make this account a thing again! it’s me. anyways have fun with all this!
imma give some shark facts bc sharks are amazing creatures!
• sharks have been around for 400 million years- outdating even trees!
• shark attacks are rare! movies such as the Jaws franchise and others have given sharks the reputation and the image that we have on them today- cold blooded killers no matter the occasion • sharks can have up to 3000 teeth!! how epic is that! their dentist bill must be high
• shark gills must have water pumping into and over them at all times and that’s why sharks always have to be moving!
• sharks only live about 20-30 years but some people decide to end that to fish for them, which harms the sharks (obv) and the ecosystem that they live in since sharks do effect where they live
As the Strawless Campaign continues to go strong. Our mind is not far away from the Edisto, SC Shark Tournament Event and other pressing marine life issues.
We at Palmetto Ocean Conservancy, Guardians of the Sea are dedicated to help protect our marine life and the ocean within.
This includes our beloved sharks.
We are creating awareness and education to those who are land lovers.
Individuals that have never descended below to dive beneath the beauty of our ocean or sailed on our seas.
There’s so many divers, underwater photographers, shark enthusiasts, biologists, activist, that have found a profound passion for the sea that they’ve dedicated their lives to protect it. They’re reaching out to the public on the importance of preserving what they love and see.
That’s what this organization is founded on
its passion and handwork.
Yes, the Strawless Campaign will continue to move forward.
POC does not want to forget about the shark tournament events that are being held on an annual basis, our local recycling system, beach/ocean clean ups, educate others on marine conservation, etc.
The Shark Tournament is an event that needs to end.
It’s a useless sport that has no meaning but to kill large sharks that have been swimming in their own habitat for years.
We will continue to give updates on our local establishments that have made ranking as Guardians of the Sea. Some of these award winning establishments are making a transition to Go Strawless permanently. Yay!!!!! Thank you for following our page.
Please invite your friends
We promise to fill this page with questions you may want answered from all walks of life.
I will show you photos, talk about recycling, eco friendly products, how to get your diver certification, catch and release, shark tagging, videos from my dives and others that are in the water everyday witnessing what others only dream of.
We’re glad you’re on board and we hope you can continue to join us while we do our best to protect our sea and all the animals that live within.
Let’s learn from one another and have an open mind. We all live in this great planet together let’s embrace it and not destroy it #tigershark
