Today I had a pretty ok workout, I’m just going through some tough stuff that’s keeping me down, and so my workout was pretty ok. But I am noticing how much stronger I get. I never thought I’d be here where I am today, and because of where I am I have been made into a better person all around. I am a strong person and you can be too! If you put your mind to it. I’m just trying my best to motivate myself to become stronger and physically it’s working but mentally it’s challenging. Family Summer Strategy #1:
I doubt there’s anything I can tell you that you don’t already know on some level. Truth is, bonding as a family requires basic knowledge and skills that I believe all of us have deep in the fiber of our beings.
Although, sometimes... we forget to put them into practice. And, when removed from them for too long, we risk forgetting them entirely.
I’ve been there. My family’s been there. 👈 And this, this is where I hope by sharing a short series of 7 strategies our family put into practice this summer are found helpful to you. Not in teaching you something new or revolutionary, but in reminding you of what you already know to be true.
So, we start with the “pause”. To grow, to learn, to be anything beyond our now, we must learn to stop and rest. It’s in the resting that we have time to hear that tiny voice of wisdom, choose our paths wisely and regain our strength for the journey. And, what has become most apparent to me as time marches on? How important it is to take time doing this as a FAMILY!
Your children are ultimately imitators of you, their teachers. Let them see you rest. Let them know what it means to pause and reflect so hopefully, when life gets crazy and frustrating for them (and it will) they will choose to slow down and pause themselves.
What does this look like for our family? We take regular family breaks and practice one of our favorite traditions “Saturday Family Talk Time”. Every Saturday, after we’ve had our breakfast, each person gets a drink of their choice and we all sit in the sunroom. There’s no agenda. We sit; we talk.
If you don’t already rest as a family, try it out this week. Get out, go to a park, relax, lounge on some hammocks, read books, have dinner on your porch and talk... or don’t.
Another favorite activity for us is packing up our quiet time activity of choice and heading to our favorite coffee shop. For my son, it’s a drawing pad and legos, for my husband and I, it’s our current read. Depending on your kiddos, this may or may not work for you. But try and find something you can do as a family that encourages you to hit the pause button on life and relax together.

Dieser Ausflug fühlte sich wie ein Klassenausflug an, nur halt viel cooler. Es gab keinen nervigen Lehrer der uns was verboten bzw. ins Bett geschickt hat 🤪.
Gerade zu Beginn am Freitag gab es einen Moment der wirklich crazy war. Dabei haben wir uns einfach für mehrere Sekunden in die Augen geschaut und wisst ihr was. Ich war schon da Sprachlos.
Den wenn wir mal ehrlich sind, wann haben bzw. nehmen wir uns die Zeit dem Gegenüber länger als mehrere Sekunden in die Augen zu schauen? Der Partner gehört nicht dazu.
Also eins weiß definitiv, ich konnte früher den Blick anderer nicht ertragen. Jetzt aber suche ich den Kontakt um zu sehen was in der Person vorgeht.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. This morning, I really wanted to fight for what I believe in at work and faced a lot of opposition. I was really upset and even shed a few tears. Then I reminded myself that I am part of this wonderful knitting/crafting community, where people care a lot about sustainability, kindness and compassion. Many of us think very carefully about the impact we have on our planet and each other. Because so many of us take small steps towards making the world a little bit better every day, there is no need to feel hopeless if you are not able to change certain inequalities in the world. We are strong together, even if we are weak individually, like I was this morning.
