With less than 2 weeks left in Australia🐨, after almost 7 years of pretty much everything I could have ever asked for from this life💦, I am so grateful for all my biggest dreams coming true and now the chance for another spectacular adventure. Every moment leading up until I leave my second home is just so special ✨... #feelingthelove 📸 @hamishcroker
🚨Gold Coast Classic - long post alert 🚨 ..
The short summary: I finished 14th in the open men, about 8min behind the winner. I’m really #happy with how I raced, I managed to keep relaxed and focused throughout the downwind section and didn’t snap my boat at the start or finish.
And here’s a bit more detail: - The #beachbreak at the start was huge and took me out a couple of times (once in a really big way) before I made it out the back. - The upwind section was fairly uneventful apart from my own attempt to skewer a national sprint team member (and reigning spec ski national champion) with my boat, then with my paddle after he fell off in front of me. - I felt super relaxed and confident paddling #downwind. I was connecting runs and really enjoying my race. I probably could have gone a bit harder but I doubt it would have changed the results much. - I nearly ran over a #shark 🦈 I think I scared it as much as it scared me. - The #swell at the finish was also huge. It snapped a few boats so I took a really conservative approach to the finish, which unfortunately let one person through. I don’t really regret that though, I’d rather lose one place than fall out and have to swim ashore.
Overall the whole trip was fantastic. I can’t thank @tommy.nort and @georgialaird_ enough for letting me crash on their couch last night. I should also give a shoutout to @epickayaksaus for the boat loan. Racing a boat I know as well as the #epicv12 made the whole thing that much easier. Also, the organisers need to be recognised for their race management. Not many people would have been happy to run a race when the swell was so big.
