  • #TCSNYCMarathonTraining • Week 3/18 of my training almost done. This run was all about PRACTICE for me. • PRACTICE getting up at 5am. Practice fueling pre-race. • PRACTICE navigating a crowded course. Practice patience and minimizing zig-zagging to conserve energy. • PRACTICE taking fluids from cups on the run at every mile. • PRACTICE with a new belt carrying GU only, no fluid. Hated it. • PRACTICE ingesting GU and sickly sweet Gatorade while running and not vomiting. • PRACTICE keeping my head up and not looking down, especially going uphill. Practice surrendering to the downhill and letting my feet fly. • Always taking it all in, listening to everything (no earbuds!), looking, feeling, even smelling (yuck) the moments and always grateful my body is able to do any of this. I am more proud of my training than running the actual 26.2. • So grateful to @thelukewahl for his love, encouragement and constant support.

  • Great to catch up with this champ @tashruns4evan at the @athleticsvictoria Albert Park 10km this morning. Another PB for Tash, who is going from strength to strength, very awesome. I’m a couple of minutes off PB pace, happy with my time though, although I went out way too quick at the start & suffered for it in the 2nd half. We live & we learn! Great day to be out running 😁🏃🏼‍♀️💛 @melbourneinstarunners

  • Morning rain showers + Florida Summer = 11 Miles with “Man on a Ledge” in the cardio cinema today! Power outage allowed me to see the movie start to finish (and then partly over again 😆). Woohoo!! Only 15 more miles and I’ll have done a full marathon 😳. Anyone wanna donate $11 to help me finish up that goal while we’re at it?! (Link in the profile!)

  • "We can survive having babies, and we can thrive!" - Julie Wiebe . It's about time I circle back around to another pelvic health post 😍 We didn't have much education on this incredibly important topic in school, so it was up to the student/therapist to seek out the education post graduation. I didn't appreciate and respect how complex and important it was until I had my two kids and wanted to continue an active lifestyle while facing my own challenges. Since then, I have been learning as much as possible, to help myself of course, but to also spread awareness to all the other women out there facing their own challenges that there is HOPE. There are professionals who can HELP you! If you are training for any sport, hoping to get stronger, faster, fitter, even chase after those kids...our pelvic health can be imperative to reaching those goals. Our pelvic floor is just one component of our central core responsible for stabilizing and generating force. If it isn't working in coordination with all the other players within this system, and in a properly responsive way for the movements and activities we are doing, we can start to see problems sneak up. And this is not just incontinence, but urgency, prolapse, painful sex, constipation, pelvic pain, hip and low back pain to name some. These can be treated not by avoiding the activities, or surgery, but with consistent, purposeful treatment programs created for YOU by an educated professional. Kegels have been the go-to, key exercises people associate with pelvic health and "strength," but they are not the whole answer. It's not that simple 😏 there are a lot of aspects to assess and consider. Do your homework. Find women's health PTs or PTs specializing in pelvic health. Most general health practitioners, ob/gyns have no rehab education. It's not their job 🤷🏻‍♀️ For me, I've been doing better and better. The past 6 months I've seen a huge improvement after I stopped nursing my daughter, went to a women's health PT, and worked on more functional exercises coordinating these systems. But I'm not out of the woods as todays run was not the best. And thats ok. I know what I need to work on for my body 🏃🏻‍♀️🏋🧘

  • ••• Today, I ran a 12 mile race...and I wanted to quit from the moment the gun went off ••• // Today SUCKED. My knees hurt, I went out too fast then regretted it, my lower back hurt, I was honestly miserable from mile 4 on. Thankfully, however, I was not alone in this race. @megdavis_10 was running too, and so after mile 4 when I wanted to throw in the towel, we regrouped & went the rest of the way together. It hurt. It was hard. But we still got it done. And honestly, that’s all that really matters. Some days it feels like I’m flying, and others it feels like I have anchors attached to my feet. But all that matters is that you show up & get it done - no matter how much you want to quit. Walk if you have to, stop if you must - but quitting isn’t an option. • • • #buildingendurance #runningsucksdoitanyways #tcsnycmarathon #tcsnycmarathontraining #milesinthelegs #marathontraining #moremiles

  • Q & A :: I got a lot of Qs about yesterday’s IG story. Here’s the A for anyone this may be helpful for • Most standard marathon (or any distance) plans assume an athlete has a recurring schedule with “typical” hours that allow for regularly scheduled runs which include miles that boost the time spent on your feet & your base fitness • But what about people like me (& a lot of you), who are fit & on our feet for a living with odd schedules? Between SWERVE, Google, coaching & the restaurant, my at-a-glance “intensity minutes” rack up to 12.5-16 hrs/wk BEFORE adding running in • A standard plan isn’t realistic for me- it has specific workouts listed every day for 18 wks. Lots of people thrive on checking off the calendar squares as they go along in perfect order. But if you’re like me & can’t commit to exact workouts on exact days, or when extra “fluff” mileage may burn you out due to the nature of your job, it feels discouraging & impossible to keep up • So this year I created my own plans that included some of my team’s workouts, taking into consideration the physical demands of my job & benefits my body is already getting simply by working. It allows for flexibility with my crazy schedule while still letting me check the boxes & feel accomplished • Every body will need something different based on your circumstances, but for me what’s working is this: 3 quality runs/wk - only speedwork & long runs. I set a baseline goal for myself I felt was achievable with my sched & won’t burn me out : 1 strength, 1 cycling, & 1 yoga /wk. There’s room for bonus work when/if I can, along with teaching cycling, barre, etc, being on my feet all day, & citibiking EVERYwhere. My workouts aren’t scheduled on specific days or times so I don’t feel like it’s a fail if I have to push something to another day. What matters is getting it done, & with reasonable goals, I can ✔️ all of my boxes knowing I got in the work I needed to get to 11/4/18 confident I did the best I could • What you saw in the notebook was little ✔️s of acknowledgment that I’m doing the best I can 💪🏼• #running #runner #coach #athlete #marathontraining #tcsnycmarathon #nycmarathon #nyc #strongwomen #fitpro #training

  • Smiles for 15 strong miles 🙌🏻 I debated even doing this run because I had a weird hamstring feeling, and told myself the second I felt any pain I would cut the run and walk home. Too many times i run through discomfort that is actually BAD pain, and wind up injured. So i was extremely careful today. I varied my usual routes and stayed local to home. Thankfully, I felt great and was able to finish the 15 very comfortably in this morning’s perfect running weather, with two water bottles that I stashed for myself for some mid run hydration. I felt REALLY good for this run, which I’m attributing to the weather and to my breakfast (1/4 cup steel cut oats, nana, pb, chia seeds and cinnamon) which is more substantial than the RX bar I’ve been having pre-long run the last 2 weeks. I felt the sustained energy fueling me for longer in the later miles, and also didn’t get hungry when I was running which seems to be happening a lot lately 😂 hope you’re having a great Saturday!

  • Well Merida and I made it farther today than we have ever gone before - over 31 miles! 🚴‍♀️ I did the Epic Ride with Avi, and it was a beautuful day to ride! I was challenged by lots of stops and starts, and some very scary traffic under the BQE. Today definitely made me a stronger and more confident cyclist. I am still fairly new at this, and days like today only make me better. I wanted to swim too, but the waves were way too big. There is nothing like the ocean kicking the shit out of you to put things in perspective! I hope it isnt that rough for my tri in 2 weeks! Now to my long training run tomorrow... 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️ #tcsnycmarathon #marathoner #triathlete #triathlon #runner #cyclist #cycling #newcyclist #swimbikerun #swim #bike #run #epicride2018 #goneriding @castellicycling @breukelenboy @bkgreenway

  • Today was a 10 mile day. I was definitely more than a little nervous to run that great of a distance (especially since the last time I did, it was wet, cold and full of pain past mile 8. #DontGoToBrooklyn), but today was beautiful and completely pain free!! The end of this run not only ended at a sweet little Summer Saturday street fair, but it was also personal celebratory moment because y’all the training is working/ worth it. I don’t think I’ve ever had such an easy ten miles in my life. Here’s to many more miles to run before race day, but first I think I’ll enjoy this smoothie. ⁣ ⁣ P.S. If you’re in the city during the summer, you should definitely spend a morning at one of the Saturday street fairs. Good food. Fun music. Great shopping. And don’t even get me started on the people watching! It’s truly one of my favorite Saturday morning traditions in the summer. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #TeamNYJL  #NYJL  #TCSNYCMarathon  #NYCMarathon  #Marathon  #Marathontrainin  #runtoinspire #runnersofinstagram #instarun #TenMiles #honeysuckleshumidity #SouthernBlogger #HHRuns #Georgia Peach #HHDoesNYCMarathon #LordHelpMe #SummerInTheCity

  • Got back into training at the end of the week 🏃🏻‍♀️ Had a tempo run Friday and recovery run today 😋 . I reluctantly skipped my runs earlier this week after rolling my ankle last weekend 😒 So I bike commuted 4 out of 5 days last week to stay active 🚴‍♀️ . I keep forgetting that 55+ miles will leave my legs pretty beat! I was sore by the time I got home yesterday, and I still needed to head out for an 8 miler, with 4 miles at lactate threshold/tempo pace 🤦‍♀️ but I knew I had to attempt that workout after missing so many runs already 🤷‍♀️ . Sure enough, my “half-marathon pace” miles were ~8:30 min/miles, which is ~20 seconds per mile slower than I would have liked 😔 But I was glad I got out there and put in the effort even though I was sore from the start 💪 . Today’s 6-mile recovery run was more of the same — my legs are still bouncing back, and I was sluggish and cranky, but I got the miles in 🙃 especially after skipping my Tuesday and Wednesday runs, it’s important to slog through and keep my base mileage up 👌 . I clearly haven’t learned my lesson about biking: I have a casual bike ride (from Astoria to @brooklynciderhouse) planned for today 🍾 hopefully that doesn’t hold me back on tomorrow’s long run 🤞 . #runner #running #runnergirl #womensrunning #womensrunningcommunity #runchat #instarunners #runnersofinstagram #instarun #fitness #fitfam #motivation #getouttorun #optoutside #badassladygang #sportsbrasquad #tcsnycmarathon #marathon #marathontraining #nyrr #seenonmyrun #nyc #nycrunning #queens #queenscapes #crosstraining #bike #bikenyc

  • It was painful, slow, and hot. I finished my first 5K in months because my #bomfnyc running buddy is training for his 3rd 🏅🏅🏅 #tcsnycmarathon. And instead of giving in to the rustiness at the first run, he’s training more often to be better than last week. But since he doesn’t text or FaceTime, you get pics of my run and a cute baby. #workwhileiwork #seenonmyrun #grateful #teamturtle
