Located on private land the race collects donations for the Olive Tree Projects to care for the well being of women and children in Haiti. . We started an hour before sunrise and I finished just before the full moon came up. Looking forward to volunteering at the race this weekend. I will be helping CREW all racers at the main aid station. . My 6 year daughter will be participating in the kids 3km run!! . . . . #proudparent #running #supportcrew

  • Today was big. If you've been following me awhile (thank you 😁), you know this past year has been crazy. Last fall/winter I was killing my training heading into R-n-R Arizona mid January. 3 weeks out I got sick. Long story, I essentially contracted a virus that lead to my body attacking and killing all of my platelets. Yes, all. After a while in the hospital and months of ongoing treatment I got healthy. I spent the summer with family, enjoying life! Today I signed up for the Mesa- PHX Marathon this coming February. Look out 26.2, I coming for you again!   • Turns out I’m a lazy ass. Or, at least I have one. After an evaluation with @KinetikChiro on Monday, I learned that my right glute doesn’t fire. After much reading (I now have my MD/PhD from Google University 😂), I learned that underactive glutes is often the culprit of lower back pain! 😮 So, over the past few days, I’ve been trying to be aware of my glutes while walking, climbing stairs, etc. I did a 1 mile test run this morning to see if I would notice a difference after doing a glute activation warm-up beforehand. When I consciously thought about using my right glute during the run, I felt the load come off my hamstring. Eureka! 💡 . We met again this afternoon and talked about how I felt there is a functional component missing from traditional PT. I think that if I wasn’t an athlete, the traditional approach of muscle strengthening would suffice to get me out of pain. But I’m swimming, biking and running and need to make sure those muscles are not just strong, but moving and firing correctly.
