  • by @matt_w_runs. One of my favourite road races. An old photo from May, closed road 10k in Oxford, UK.🏃🏅 . This I where I was 15 seconds from joining the sub40 club for a 10k. I haven't run like this since, while I waited for my shins to recover. . I have the trails and hills to thank now as it has got me back on track and meant I have got faster by running less. . I shall be trying to break 40 again very soon 🏃💪🏅

  • Hi ladies! Meet Alice @alicechavez88 and her beautiful girls! Here is Alice’s story. ... I grew up in a broken home. Sure I had my mom and dad but my father was mentally, emotionally, and physically abusive. He would beat all of us. Especially my mom. We saw how he cheated on her, how he beat her, and how much he talked bad to her. It was definitely not something we should have been exposed to. . I was never taught to love myself, to be confident, to think positively of myself. There was no positivity in my youth. I didn't love myself at all because I didn't know what that meant. Growing up was hard. We weren't even allowed to look out the window, play outside, paint our nails. My father was a dictator and it was his way or no way. . After we grew up I pushed back because I knew what he was doing was wrong and it was upsetting that no one was doing anything. So I refused to allow it which was why a relationship between me and him became nonexistent. After I became an adult I was never able to shake off my insecurities. I had no self confidence and I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. . Lucky for me though, my husband has been around since I was little. He is amazing and I'm so lucky I got the complete opposite of what my dad was. I didn’t repeat history! But I didn't feel happy with myself and I knew that was always gonna hold me back from my full potential in all areas of my life. . So fast forward to being pregnant with my 3rd child and I was actively running 4 miles or so a day and I was feeling amazing. I began to get a glimpse of something in me that was nice. I am such a great motivator, but can't reciprocate that to myself. Even though I was feeling good I felt like I just couldn't say anything aloud about myself. Like I wasn't allowed to verbalize my feelings. . Well after having my son it faded a bit and I felt like I needed to get myself back on track. So that is where I am now. I am a work in progress. I have gotten closer to God, I am healthy, I am running still and obsessed with it, I am pursuing only the things that help my soul, and I am making no apologies for working towards complete happiness. • Track Tuesday this week- starting to get a little bit longer, very gradually to avoid injury and maximize recovery. - Marathon training so far is good! Long runs are up to 14 with a 16 miler on deck this week, and the speed work helps to make those PR goals happen. - Are any of you training for a winter marathon? Where are you in your program?

  • I feel like it’s taken me all day to post my non exciting 7mi easy run today. Just miles in the marathon training bank. I was racing around trying to make the most of my time while my son was at preschool, which included a stop at the local running store! I needed to stock up on some Gu. See my story to see what flavors I bought and share your favorite flavor with me! But I also bought some new shoes!!! And I am trying a new brand! I ended up getting the @saucony Rides. I’d been contemplating a shoe rotation for some time. And today I ended up wearing my old, worn out shoes because I was afraid they’d be soaked and I wouldn’t be able to wear them for tomorrow’s harder and longer run. They felt totally awful. So I took this as my sign that I definitely needed at least 2 pairs of good shoes in rotation. Do you rotate your shoes? Are they the same make and model or different?

  • The week before marathon race week! 🏃🏼‍♀️🙌🏻✨It starts to feel magical and nauseating at the same time! Lol 😂 But really, you’re starting to taper, you’re still hungry most of the time, you’re tired, yet you have tons of energy! All the emotions! 😴😭😁😱 . . Yesterday I had pace practice miles 2 x 2 and warmup cooldown with 6 miles total at 47:27 - 7:54 average, and today 3 easy miles at 9+ pace. So very different workouts but preparing me for a proper taper. . . My training cycle this time around started out far from perfect, but I have been feeling so good the last 2 weeks finally and I’m feeling really ready for this race! 💪🏻 #StGeorgeMarathon #MarathonRunner #Marathoner

  • “This is what you trained for. Now bring this thing home.” 🏁 . Going back to Sunday’s half marathon PR (1:27:40). By this point, I’d gone out faster than expected, PR’d in the 5K and 10K in the same race, and was now hauling ass to the finish. 🏃🏽‍♂️💨 . My final 400m was at a 3:37/km pace and I was going all out. Yea, it hurt. But I’ve learned to deal with that hurt. I’ve been preparing for this part of the race and how I’d feel. I realize I can push after a hard effort because I do it all the time in training. Got to work on that facial expression though! 💪🏼

  • Genau 2 Wochen Laufpause liegen hinter mir.

  • Focus on my shirt. Why? Because if you know me, you know that the Cabot Trail Relay Race is my favourite race weekend. And, REGISTRATION will be opening soon. So start preparing your team and see if lottery luck is on your side for 2019. Who knows, if we're all selected, you may get to see me complete my final 2 legs and become one of I don't know how many, to complete the entire race. 🤞🏻 #run #runner #running #weaktimerunning #cieleathletics #frontlineraceteam #cabottrailrelay #ctrr

  • What do you do during this hard workouts to help yourself succeed? Obviously success is never guaranteed but your mind is such a powerful tool. 🙌 1️⃣ Think positive - trust me I’ve gone into so many workouts saying “there is no way I can hit these paces” or “I feel awful I’m doomed for this workout.” You’d be surprised how detrimental those thoughts can be! The more positive your thoughts the higher your chances of a successful outcome 💪 2️⃣ Visualize what your working for - when I was training for my first BQ (with only a PR of 4:38 previously) I knew it was going to be a big challenge but I always visualized that feeling of the moment I crossed the finish line knowing I was going to Boston 💛💙 I can’t tell you how many workouts that got me through and it was all worth while when it all paid off for me a few months later! 3️⃣ Realize you are BLESSED to run - have you ever had an injury? Or a time when you couldn’t run? Nothing makes you more appreciative of the simple ability to run until it’s taken away. During hard workouts I like to remind myself that I GET TO RUN! I choose to do this and I am blessed to be able to each day! ♥️ I had to work a lot on my mindset after my last marathon and thankfully I’m seeing that pay off! 🏃🏼‍♀️ 8 alternating miles (1 on/1 off) for me this morning! 👟 . . What tips or tricks do you have for getting through those long/tough workouts? . . #workouttuesday #digdeep #lovetorun #runstrong
