  • On the frontline of Climate Change. ※ ↠ Kiribati is a nation made up of 32 atolls & 1 island dispersed across 3.5 million sq km of the Pacific Ocean. The people who live there & in other Pacific island nations, contribute less than 0.03% of the world’s total greenhouse gas emissions, yet they are some of the most vulnerable nations to climate change. ※ ↠ Testimonies from I-Kiribati & other Pacific Islanders show how climate change is not just a future concern, it is a lived reality - already having real impacts for people & communities across their nations. ※ ↠ & it’s not hard to see why. Kiribati is one of the world’s lowest-lying countries, with an average height of just two metres above sea level. Not only are the coastlines regularly being lost to increasingly frequent king tides and rising sea levels, but food security is also being impacted by more extreme rain patterns and flooding, longer droughts and salt water inundation, making it increasingly difficult to grow staple crops. Fresh drinking water supplies are also being contaminated with salt, making it unsuitable for drinking. Scientists believe that Kiribati can expect to become uninhabitable in less than 30 years. ※ ↠ Whilst the reality of Climate Change may not be immediately obvious and may seem like a distant threat for many of us - who are doing the bare minimum or making token gestures with our keep-cups. It is a current lived reality for others, who are fighting for survival and fighting to be heard. Climate Change is a global challenge, which is why we should all, as a global community, within our borders and as individuals, make changes and act for climate justice. ※ ↠ But core to this is that those with the lived experiences and most impacted must be the ones identifying and leading global solutions. They are already advocating - but we need to do more to listen to, learn and take direction from, make spaces for and amplify their voices and advocacy. • CALIFORNIA. home. ⠀ ⠀ I've felt the pull to sit down and create during the disastrous fires that have consumed our state, but ultimately, the emotions that start to stir are too overwhelming. Paradise was my hometown – the town that is now making world news as the location of CA's deadliest fire. The town that has been completely destroyed with over 1,000 residents still missing. The house and property where me and my 4 brothers and sisters grew up, where my dad lived for 45 years, has been burnt to the ground. I'm forever grateful my family is safe, but now they are forced to move through the pain of re-establishing their lives... not an easy task for a couple in their 70's.⠀ ⠀ I know I'm not alone in my sadness and I know so many have experienced far greater loss. My heart is fully extended to all those effected by this fire storm. ⠀ ⠀ While I can't help but ruminate over how we have such disappointing and poor leadership at a time like this (who childishly insulted my hometown and sent no aid in the midst of crisis and trauma), I want to refocus my attention and help in the most effective way I can (at least for now).⠀ ⠀ In the upcoming days I'll be donating a portion of sales from my art with the hashtag #LainaLynnForCalifornina I'll have more details this week and I hope so much that you will contribute. ⠀ _______________⠀ 42/100 | CA poppies from my morning walk.⠀ _______________⠀ #100daysofLainaTime #the100dayproject #atmyownpace

  • Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a stirring novella told by an unnamed narrator who befriends the enigmatic but truly bewitching Holly Golightly, a cafe society girl. They meet in a brownstone apartment in an upscale Manhattan locality where the two reside as tenants. Their first encounter is when Holly solicits the narrator past midnight to let her in the building as she had forgotten her keys. He eventually becomes her “doorbell convenience” as she remains brazen about her ‘requests’, if one can even call it that. ~ Holly is not rude or insolent, just fearless. She socialises with wealthy men to maintain her lavish lifestyle and is seen in and out of the apartment at odd hours, where she lives in a crummy flat with her cat and a guitar. Our narrator, on the other hand, is a disciplined writer who cares about his stories and perceives writing as a means to precipitate change in the world. So it isn’t surprising when he falls for Holly, the most unconventional but also the most obvious choice of love-interest for such a man. ~ Why obvious, you ask? Because isn’t love the most treacherous feeling? The one that betrays our sensibilities, rebels against our prejudices and stands tall despite our better judgement? Haven’t we all loved someone when we knew, in the deepest recesses of our heart, that it was wrong, that it was foolish? But did it deter us? There, you have your answer. ~ Holly is a free spirit who is indomitable but painfully vulnerable, who hasn’t had the best circumstances in her childhood but has only smirked at life, put her red lipstick on and strutted ahead, refusing to let anything come in the way of her will to live and live sumptuously, at that. ~ Read this for a heroic woman protagonist and her dire want to be loved, a yielding male narrator harbouring guileless, unrequited love for that woman but mostly for love in its most relatable form. ~ Rating: 10 on 10 #penguinclassics #breakfastattiffanys #trumancapote #romance #americanliterature #hollygolightly #penguinindia #penguinbooks #unitedbookstagram #bookstagramindia #trackmypost #bookworm #readreadread #kimmersbooks #met_createchange #readeveryday #bookishfeatures #mybookfeatures #womencreating

  • I’d swim in that.⠀ ⠀ This is the final room you’ll visit on any tour of Hearst Castle. The bus back down the hill (mountain?!) picks you up on the far side of it.⠀ ⠀ The outside pool was empty when I visited, it was on its final day of being redone as it had been leaking thousands of gallons of water a day. Interestingly, it was being redone with the same Vermont marble that had originally been used to line it decades ago. That outside pool is the more famous and most photographed one. And while I didn’t see it in it’s full (literally) glory, I found this one much more impressive.⠀ ⠀ Pool party anyone? Btw, staff do get to party in the castle one day each year and they get to bring one guest with them. Who’s trying to get a job and put me on the guest list?!

  • There are few problems with my commitment to the bare minimum of planning, but the Monday that I’d booked to go to Hearst Castle I’d also vaguely planned to go the highly rated restaurant just down the street.⠀ ⠀ Hearst Castle is a bit of a drive from the closest population center and my visit was scheduled for pretty late, so this restaurant was a bit of a necessity to end my day.⠀ ⠀ Restaurants like to be closed on Mondays. Like the one I’d planned to go to.⠀ ⠀ I distracted myself from my hunger with this beautiful pier and wished that I’d planned a picnic to eat near the water instead. ⠀ ⠀ So, if you got to Hearst Castle in the evening (which I definitely recommend!), pack a picnic and settle in at the base of the pier afterwards for a beautiful golden sunset.⠀ ⠀ Btw, there was a not so delicious but open restaurant down the street so I didn’t go hungry.

  • I've only been on Instgram for about 11mths and in that time I've met some pretty amazing people, I've learnt more about photography, about some great photography courses (I've even won some! 😁), but I've also spent way too much time on my phone mindlessly scrolling, comparing myself to others, constantly checking for "likes" and "comments" and questioning my skills and creativity. I guess it's all about balance and finding what works for you. For now, I don't have that balance and so I'm going to take a break. I'm going to focus on the editing course I'm currently doing and then hopefully catch up on all the amazing Breakouts I've purchased this year. 😉 I also want to print some family photo books (any recommendations in Australia?) and cull and edit all the photos I've taken this year. Then I want to edit for me, just me, without thinking about how it will be received, or how many likes it'll get or if it'll be featured. 😜 I've got myself into the trap of pretty much only editing photos I'm going to share and that's just not why I delved into this whole photography thing. I know you'll understand, I'm sure many of you have been here before. 😉 And mostly, I want to be more present for my children as they probably see me on my phone way more than I'd like and more than what I'm comfortable with! 🤤 So...enjoy the upcoming silly season. Stay sane and I'll see you in the New Year! 😊🤗❤ And although this is my son, I feel like it represents me scooting off in the distance to get on with life. 😉😄

  • Hidden gem I went for a photo walk along the San Antonio River Walk this morning before my surgery. This waterfall is in a grotto in the less touristy section. A little serenity before my procedure. I’ve spent the afternoon recuperating reading on the porch in the sun. I no longer have a PICC line (after a year with one). I have a port for when I still need IV medication, but it’s completely beneath my skin. Much easier.

  • The true reason that I am continuing with the #unstaged theme today is that I don't have my 💩 together this week enough to have taken any good house photos. I had kids home sick 4.5/5 days, I have a horrible ear infection, there is a child with tonsillitis, and there is a man cold going on here as well (his word choice). This is my dining room. And this is what it looks like 90% of the time when these twinsies are home. They think this room is called a "drawing room."😂 I make them clean it up every night because the only things I'm really strict about are tidying up and kindness. #priorities #unstaged Please share your unstaged photos with me! I'm finding this all way too fun! 😘
